Health

Hi everybody! Today I will tell you what I think of the about the health system in Chile.

Chile has been a completely commercial country for more than 40 years, so most of the necessary services are in the hands of individuals. Among these services is health, a regrettable thing.

There are two types of health in Chile: private and public. If you are a person who has a lot of money, you can easily access the first one. Also if you need urgent attention, you only have to pay a certain (expensive)  price and everything will be fast and safe.

However, if you do not have enough money to afford the "luxury" of private clinics, you will have to settle for a precarious system, unsafe buildings, overcrowding, poor food, excessive hours for workers who can hardly rest. Oh! I almost forgot it! Worst of all: you will have to wait months or even years to get an apointment.

Is this correct?

Obviously not. The most awful thing is that the government is doing nothing to solve this. They say in the news that they "are doing the impossible" to solve this problem, but they continue to adjust laws in their favor to increase their benefits and, in turn, prefer to give resources to the privates before improving public health.

But how can the health service be improved?

Personally, I believe that the Government should unify public and private health system, without giving more subsidies to the clinics. The ideal would be a single, comprehensive and universal system, which should be administered by its workers, scientific communities and territories; not by owners who just want to increase their profits at the cost of human lives.

Answering the initial question, I think that Chile's health system is disgustingly uneven. I also believe that proper health should be strived for, as this means a pleasant life and a peaceful death for each individual.

I remember once hearing an old man say, "I'd rather die than be on the waiting list." I wonder: is it correct to allow access to good health to be completely determined by your economic power? No, and we cannot continue to allow it. Chileans need a decent system.

With nothing more else to say, thanks for reading! If you liked it, leave your opinion in the comments. Let's talk respectfully so we can share interesting ideas.

Greetings and see you later!

  1. I totally agree with you, and the truth seems to me your idea to try to improve the health system seems very appropriate, since it is something that for many reasons should improve, I find that you explained very well the differences between health systems and how I said at the beginning, I support your idea to improve this.

  2. Hi, Juan.
I completely agree with you. Especially with "The ideal would be a single, comprehensive and universal system, which should be administered by its workers, scientific communities and territories."
I feel that a change is necessary, without a doubt, and hopefully sooner.
I greatly hope that I can live in a country where no one dies waiting for a medical hour. Let no one die for lack of resources, which is completely avoidable.
