My experience with politics
My first approach to them was at school. I remember that I had a history teacher who had a great influence on the formation of my political thought. His classes were very interesting, especially when he talked about the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet and the terrible human rights violations he did.
My second approach was music. I have always had a special attachment to this art, so when I began to enter this world of history and politics, I quickly discovered the so-called "New Chilean Song"*. Artists like Violeta Parra, Inti Illimani and Quilapayun had a lot of influence on the way I think nowadays. However, the musician that struck me the most was Victor Jara, as his music conveyed in me a message of transcendental and important struggle. Other artists who had a lot of influence on me are Rage Againts the Machine and Los Prisioneros.
However, what ended up influencing my political thought was social injustice. Since I started to relate to political ideas, I didn't tolerate the fact that there was (and still is) terrible inequality in Chile. I was saying to myself, “Damn, how can we allow this? This bloody system is making fun of people! We have to change this”. I was often called "communist" for thinking such things, but I wonder: should we tolerate some living at the expense of others?
Politics is very important to me, in fact, it is one of the reasons that motivated me to study journalism. It's a thought I've been shaping for many years.
But well, that's my story. I would appreciate it if you could share your opinion or some experience with me in the comments. Let's talk respectfully so we can share interesting ideas. In turn, I want to share with you a few songs that are important to me and influenced me in this process. With nothing else to say, see you next time!

Hi Juan! Like you I like Violeta Parra very much and as I grew up I realized the powerful meaning of her lyrics. In my opinion there is something special in the simplicity of her sound.
ResponderEliminarHello, Juan.
ResponderEliminarI loved the approach you took to your blog, linking politics with music. I feel like it's something very important that I didn't see anyone else mention.
Music is one of the significant things through which the story unfolds. For example, something too emotional for me, was the joint version that Chilean artists played of, "El Derecho de Vivir en Paz". Linked to the Social Outbreak.
It is important to consider the relationship between politics and music and I really enjoyed seeing it on this blog.
